The Ministry of Youth Affairs has collaborated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to embark on a nationwide mobilization of youths to be trained and also harnessed their youthful energy for Chiefdom Youth Farm project.
During the weekly presser hosted by the Ministry of Information and Communications, Youth Minister, Mohamed Orman Bangura said: “We are paying more attention on agriculture because when you empower young people in agriculture, it will reduce migration and also boost the local economy and instill hope at district and chiefdom levels.”
He stated that each chiefdom is expected to have four groups of twenty-five persons, disclosing that a total of twenty thousand youths will be involved in the project.
He added: “What we intend doing is not to pay young people anymore on a monthly basis but rather encourage them to have passion for agriculture itself.
He disclosed that the government of Sierra Leone through the Minister of Finance has finally approved the sum of five billion Leones for the Youth Empowerment Fund, where young people from different areas will have access to those funds.
